Risky Mumbai Railways- 12 lose life in a day

Mumbai - Mumbai's lifeline is slowly turning into a death trap, if statistics are anything to go by.

According to figures released by the Railways, 12 persons lost their lives and nine were critically injured in separate incidents on rail premises all over the city. The maximum number of accidents have occurred while the victims were crossing the railway tracks. Other reasons include falling off crowded trains, hitting poles, falling into the gap between the train and the platform, receiving an electric shock of the overhead wire, suicides, and natural deaths as well.

The Central Railway's main line and harbour line lead the numbers of accidents and fatalities. In fact, railway sources say that the number of accidents on the CR's main line is going up each day. Several of those who lost their lives in the accidents on Monday are yet to be identified.
