The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved the construction of a 21.3-kilometre elevated road between Amne and Saket to improve connectivity between Nagpur–Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg and South Mumbai.
The project, estimated at INR 6,202 crore, has received an initial allocation of INR 500 crore in the 2026–27 state budget to begin preliminary work. The new corridor is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and shorten travel time for vehicles entering Mumbai from the Samruddhi Expressway.
Currently, motorists travelling from the expressway reach Amne but experience heavy congestion while heading toward South Mumbai, often taking two to two-and-a-half hours to complete the journey. The elevated road aims to ease this bottleneck and improve traffic flow.
The proposed route will run from Amne to Saket, and then connect to the existing road network via the Saket–Anand Nagar elevated road, Chheda Nagar flyover, and the Eastern Freeway, eventually providing access to South Mumbai, including areas such as Marine Drive.
The corridor will also feature six interchanges, offering connectivity towards Virar, Bhayander, and other key routes within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Once completed, the new link is expected to reduce travel time to approximately one hour, providing faster and more efficient access to the city.
