Navi Mumbai to get a new station between Thane and Airoli

With an addition to Ram Mandir station which falls between Jogeshwari and Goregaon and which was built last year in December,  a new station named 'Dighe' will be coming up on trans-harbour Thane-Vashi line. This will be the 77th on Central Railway's suburban network and 114th in Mumbai.

For the same, Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation has invited bids for the construction of Dighe station which costs around INR 107.2 crore.

Mumbaikars will have to wait for a year

The proposed Dighe station will have a pre-engineered building with a steel roof, a subway and a circulating area, reported Mid- Day. The station will be ready by 2019.

CR plans not one but two stations

Other than Dighe, another station to come up is Bankode between Koparkhairane and Turbhe, which will be built after the completion of Dighe station.

As railway officials told to Mid-Day,

The station between Thane and Airoli is about 5.76 km and the new station with four platforms and a subway will be near the Airoli Knowledge Park. It will prove to be a boon to thousands of residents from Digha village and those around the Thane-Belapur Road."

Dighe will be interlinked

Railway officials have planned to connect Dighe to Airoli-Kalwa rail link, which will come up in the future.

This particular rail link will help to ease the traffic on Thane station and will provide a direct link between the trans-harbour Thane-Vashi line and the CST-Kalyan mainline.
