Mumbai Auto and Taxi Fares to Increase From September 1

Commuters across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will have to pay more for autorickshaw and taxi rides from September 1, 2026, following a revision in fares.

According to the revised fare structure, autorickshaw fares will increase by ₹1, while taxi fares will rise by ₹2. The new rates will apply in Mumbai as well as areas including Thane, Kalyan and Navi Mumbai.

The fare hike is expected to affect thousands of daily commuters who rely on autos and taxis for short-distance travel. Transport operators have been seeking fare revisions citing rising fuel, maintenance and operating costs.

The previous fare revision came into effect in February 2025. At that time, the minimum autorickshaw fare was increased from ₹23 to ₹26, while the minimum taxi fare rose from ₹28 to ₹31.

The latest increase is expected to add to the daily travel expenses of commuters, particularly those who regularly use autos and taxis.

The revised fares will come into effect from September 1, 2026.
