Mumbai is set to get 238 new metro-like suburban local trains between 2027 and 2030, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Thursday.
The new trains will feature automatic doors, air conditioning and cleaner, more modern interiors, making Mumbai’s local train travel more comfortable for commuters.
Fadnavis said the new trains will be introduced after receiving approval from the Central Government. The first trains are expected to enter service in 2027, with the entire suburban fleet expected to become metro-like by March 2030.
The announcement was made during the virtual inauguration of infrastructure projects undertaken by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The event also marked the launch of TBM Arjun on the Thane side of the Thane-Borivali twin underground tunnel project.
A flyover connecting G Block of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) with the Eastern Express Highway was also named the Barrister Babasaheb Bhosale Flyover.
