Mumbai: Metro Lines 2A and 7 Record 200 Million Passengers in 39 Months

The daily passenger count on the Dahisar to Andheri West Metro 2A and Dahisar to Gundavli Metro 7 lines is steadily increasing. In the 39 months since the line was put into service, the total number of passengers travelling on this line has reached 200 million. An average of 260 thousand passengers are currently travelling on this line every day.

Metro Lines 2A and 7 of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's (MMRDA) 14 metro line project were partially commissioned in April 2022 and fully commissioned in January 2023. These lines brought two more metro lines into service for the western suburbs after Metro 1 (Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova). While it was expected that this route would receive a good response, initially the Mumbaikars did not respond to this route. However, for the past one to one and a half years, the number of passengers on this route has been increasing steadily.

On July 8, the daily passenger traffic on this route crossed the three lakh mark. On this day, three lakh 1 thousand 127 passengers travelled on this route. The number of passengers is also increasing as Mumbaikars prefer the metro during the monsoon season.

To increase the number of passengers, MMRDA is giving priority to the e-ticket scheme. On the other hand, students up to 12th standard, the disabled and senior citizens are also being given a 25 percent discount on passes and Mumbai 1 cards. This is helping to increase passenger numbers. On the first day, when both these routes were put into service, 19,451 passengers travelled on these routes. After that, a total of 10 million passengers traveled on these routes in 9 months. After that, it took 25 months for the total number of passengers to reach 100 million.

However, in the last one to one and a half years due to the significant increase in passenger numbers it has taken only 14 months to cross the next 100 million passenger mark after the 100 million passenger mark.
