Navi Mumbai’s Metro Line 1 have recorded a cumulative ridership of 1.15 crore passengers since it began operations two years ago.
The 11.1km elevated Metro corridor—spanning from Belapur to Pendhar and operated by CIDCO—began commercial services on November 17, 2023.
CIDCO Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director Vijay Singhal said the response from commuters reflects the growing reliance on the Metro network for daily travel.
Amid the rising passenger footfalls, plans are underway to extend Metro Line 1 from Belapur to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). Metro Line 2, proposed between Pendhar and Taloja MIDC and further to NMIA via Kalamboli and Kamothe, will span approximately 16km. The route has improved connectivity to offices, housing complexes and industrial areas in Belapur, Kharghar and Taloja.
The agency recently revised the service schedule to increase frequency, with trains running every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 15 minutes during non-peak hours. Fares on the line range from Rs 10 to Rs 30 after a recent fare rationalisation aimed at boosting ridership.
