Uber Shuttle, Cityflo Services Likely To Shut Down After Facing Crackdown For Lacking State Licenses

Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Thursday, July 10, ordered a crackdown of aggregator bus services, such as Uber Shuttle and Cityflo, for functioning without the necessary licenses needed from the state government.

He further mentioned that strict actions will be taken against the bus companies as well as the senior RTO officials for their failure to act against illegal bike taxis and aggregator buses.

As per reports, from Saturday, July 12, Uber Shuttle, the transport company’s premium bus service will go off the city’s roads after the state transport department found it operating illegally.

After Sarnaik directed the transport commissioner to investigate the matter and take necessary action, officials of the transport department said that Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) have been asked to conduct raids on unauthorised Uber Shuttle buses.

As per recent statistics from Uber, the shuttle service recorded 432,000 new users booking seats on the bus through their app.

The lack of Uber Shuttle buses will impact office goers travelling from eastern and western suburbs as far as Panvel, Kalyan, and Bhayandar, to their offices in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Worli, and south Mumbai.

At present, more than 450 buses function through Uber Shuttle, Cityflo, and various other private companies in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Here’s how Mumbaikars reacted:

Many commuters have come forward in support of these services and stated how they are helpful and convenient for daily commuters to different areas in the city, especially those who travel from suburbs to city for work.

Some travelers are frustrated that these services operated widely while the government did nothing to address them, while others are not willing to let these services shut.
