Amid the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections, hotels and restaurants in Maharashtra have decided to offer 10-20 per cent discount to customers who cast their votes in Mumbai, which is scheduled for May 20.

Apart from this, other cities in the state like Pune and Mahabaleshwar will be offering this discount. Other states such as Delhi and Himachal have also announced this rebate to voters who show their inked fingers.

The initiative is part of the “Pledge To Vote” campaign by the Hotel and Restaurant Association (Western India) – HRAWI, in an aim to promote voter awareness and boost participation in the general elections.

The association has also advised its members to actively engage their customers in boosting the voter turnout by offering discounts on bills to those who display the indelible ink on their finger.

The association will also use social media platforms to post alerts, updates and reminders, urging people to vote.

Moreover, some of the organizations have come up with unique ideas like distributing sampling and offering free health checkups.

In addition to this, the Mumbai Metro services will also offer 10 per cent to its commuters on the voting day.

These developments came as so far in three phases have seen voter turnouts of 66.1%, 66.7%, and 61% respectively, marking a roughly 3 per cent decrease from the 2019 elections.
