The increasing number of road accidents in the entire state has become a matter of concern and the number of people losing their lives in accidents in the last six to seven months is alarming. In the last six months, there were 5,897 fatal accidents in which 6,437 people died, while 106 people lost their lives in 51 fatal accidents on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Highway in the seven months from December 2022 to July 3, according to the report by Loksatta. 


One lakh 35 thousand 103 road accidents took place in the state from 2019 to May 2023. 55,069 of them were fatal accidents. Among them 59,546 people died. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has claimed that the rate of fatal accidents on the Samruddhi Highway is only 0.85 percent as compared to the fatal accidents in 2023 in the state.

Last week, a private bus met with a terrible accident on Samruddhi Highway in Sindkhedraja area of Buldhana. 25 passengers died in it. This was the biggest accident ever on this highway. Due to this accident, the problem of increasing accidents has come to the fore. After this accident, the statistics of road accidents across the state have been revealed. According to these statistics, 1 lakh 35 thousand 103 road accidents took place in the state from 2019 to May 2023 in which 59,546 people died.


So far (December 2022 to July 7) 33 lakh 12 thousand 995 vehicles have run on Samruddhi. Meanwhile, there were 51 fatal accidents in Samruddhi. Among them 106 people died. Between January and May 2023, there were 5,897 fatal accidents in the state in which 6,437 people died. Considering this number, the accident rate on Samruddhi is only 0.85 percent. Importantly, all these accidents are due to human error. Therefore, Samruddhi Highway is completely safe in terms of travel and drivers and passengers need to follow the rules and maintain discipline, said Sanjay Yadav, Joint Managing Director of MSRDC.
