Mumbai has long grappled with traffic congestion issues. In an effort to address this problem, the Mumbai traffic police have identified five locations which are worst affected by traffic congestion. The police refer to these points as "pain points." These locations have been causing headaches for both motorists and pedestrians alike.

Here's why these spots are described as pain points:

Bandra (East) and BKC:

One of the main pain points is East Bandra and BKC, where severe traffic issues arise. These issues are caused by disorganised parking and the recklessness of share-auto drivers. The high pedestrian congestion on the roads also adds to the chaos.

Recognising the urgency of the situation, the traffic police have approached the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) with a request to rebuild the demolished footbridge. They have also requested the construction of a subway to provide pedestrians with a safer alternative.

Furthermore, they have asked the railways to remove an empty ticket counter to create more space for big vehicles like buses and trucks. They have instructed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to establish designated lanes for shared autos and taxis.

Lucky Junction in Bandra (West):

Another trouble spot is Lucky Junction in Bandra West. It experiences heavy traffic due to haphazard pedestrian crossings and poor traffic management. To mitigate this problem, the traffic police have suggested the construction of a subway from Lucky Junction to Bandra Station.

Additionally, a skywalk to link the railway station with the metro station has been proposed. Moreover, the traffic police recommend that buses operate directly from the Bandra station instead of the depot.

Terminal 2 (T2) of the Western Express Highway (WEH):

The entrance to Terminal 2 (T2) of the Western Express Highway is also a major traffic congestion point. The crisscrossing of vehicles from Northern Mumbai to Vile Parle and the departure of vehicles from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Terminal 2 contribute to the bottleneck.

Concerned about this situation, the traffic police have written to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking. They have requested regular health examinations of their buses to prevent breakdowns.

Additionally, they have urged the speedy completion of a bridge construction project to alleviate the traffic congestion. In their communication with the BMC, the traffic police have emphasised the importance of posting signboards for diversions at the entrance to T2.

Borivali (West):

Borivali (West) also encounters traffic issues due to the occupation of footpaths and parts of the road by hawkers. To combat this problem, the traffic police have called upon the BMC to conduct daily drives to remove the hawkers and prevent their return.

Churchgate station:

Churchgate station faces challenges with pedestrians crossing the street haphazardly, causing disruptions to both traffic and pedestrian movement. To address this issue, the traffic police have requested that BEST allow only one passenger to pass through the bus stop entry point. Additionally, they have urged the BMC to raise the road dividers to discourage pedestrians from crossing at undesignated spots.
