There were 514 hazardous buildings in the Navi Mumbai municipal area last year. This year the number has increased to 535 and a survey has been conducted for the year 2024-25 of dangerous buildings in the jurisdiction of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. After the survey, a total of 535 buildings have been declared as dangerous buildings under Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act.


As per section 265(a) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, it is mandatory to get a structural inspection of the buildings which have been in use for more than 30 years before 30 September 2024 by a structural engineer registered with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. A fine of INR 25,000 will be imposed on the citizens of Navi Mumbai city if they do not submit the structural report of the dangerous buildings before September 30, the notification sent by the municipal corporation stated. According to the municipal survey, there are 535 dangerous buildings in the city.

Notice of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation

Citizens are requested to immediately stop occupancy/use of dangerous buildings/houses. Otherwise, it has been indicated on behalf of the Municipal Corporation that it should be noted that in case of an unfortunate accident, the entire responsibility will remain with the concerned.


79 dangerous constructions in Panvel

There are 79 dangerous properties in the Panvel municipal area and the municipality through a public press release has ordered the occupants of these properties to vacate the respective places before monsoon. If the structure is more than 30 years old, it is a rule to have a structural audit by a structural engineer. A few years ago, a dangerous building collapsed in Panvel. As a precautionary measure, the municipality has been alerting property owners of dangerous buildings through notice letters since May as a precaution to avoid any untoward incident in Panvel during heavy rains. The notification letter informs that the owner of the property concerned will be responsible for any untoward incident in dangerous buildings.
