Popular Tamil film actor Uma Ramanan passed away in Chennai after a long illness. She breathed her last on Wednesday, May 1. She was 69 years old. Uma Ramanan's death has been reported by her husband musician AV Ramanan by sharing a post on social media.


According to media reports, Uma had been ill for a few days. On May 1, her condition deteriorated further. She breathed her last around 7.45 pm. The exact cause of her death has not been revealed yet.


Uma had a great contribution in Tamil cinema. The popular singer is survived by her husband AV Ramanan and their son Vignesh Ramanan. Uma has sung many popular songs in Tamil films. In her 35-year career, Uma participated in more than 6,000 live concerts.

Uma and her husband used to do singing programs together. She was a trained classical singer. Uma rose to fame thanks to veteran musician Ilaiyaraaja. Apart from Ilaiyaraaja, Uma has also sung for composers Mani Sharma, Deva, Vidyasagar.


Her name became a household name due to the song Poongathave Thal Athirvu from Nizhalgal. Many of her songs like 'Oru Jeevan Alaithathu', 'Aagaya Vennilave Arangetra Velai', 'Bhoopalam Isaikkum', 'Nee Padhi Naan Padi Kanne' are popular among fans. She made her debut in the art world in 1977 with a song in 'Shri Krishna Leela'.
