According to latest reports, another mishap has taken place on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway within a week.

Some girders of the flyover under construction passing through Buldhana district and connecting two hilly areas near Pimpalkhuta village in Package 1 of the expressway, collapsed, reports stated.

Owing to this, truck was also crushed parked under the bridge. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

This is the second such incident of bridge collapse on the under-construction Expressway in the last three days.

According to the information given by the security guard to the media, the incident took place between 1-2 pm while construction was underway, a large girder fell from a height of 80 feet.

Earlier, a wildlife overpass was damaged owing to which the opening of the first phase of the Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway was slated for May 2. A 201-km stretch between Nagpur and Shelu Bazar in Washim, was set to be thrown open to the public in phases.

Now, it is expected to open in over a month or nearly 45 days. However, with the latest accident, it is likely to be delayed further.

It has come to light that the project has hit another roadblock hampering its commencement for the second time. Previously the opening of the expressway was delayed due to pandemic induced lockdown leading to no sufficient manpower to finish the work on target deadline.
