Over 700 Senior Citizens, Differently-abled Cast Vote From Home in Mumbai

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has provided the facility of home voting through postal ballot by postal voting team for the first time to senior citizens above 85 years of age, PwD voters in Lok Sabha elections.

In a landmark move, the first-of-its-kind home-voting facility for elderly people and persons with disabilities was started in three of the constituencies of Mumbai.

In fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, a total of 725 senior citizens and differently-abled people or persons with disabilities (PwDs) from Mumbai South, Mumbai South Central and Mumbai North East constituencies cast their votes from home for the fifth phase on May 14 and 15.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has provided the facility of home voting through postal ballot by postal voting team for the first time to senior citizens above 85 years of age, PwD voters in Lok Sabha elections.

Mumbai South and Mumbai South Central saw 543 senior citizens and nine differently-abled people.

Meanwhile 173 senior citizens and differently-abled people cast their vote from home in Mumbai North east. In this constituency, a 100-year-old lady Kashibai Kupte, who is a resident of Vikhroli, expressed her happiness that the vote was not wasted and she was able to exercise her franchise.

The constituencies participating in this phase, scheduled on May 20, in Maharashtra include Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Kalyan, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Thane, Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central, and Mumbai South.
