Central Railway (CR), in its unwavering commitment to provide a safe, smooth and comfortable travel experience to its valued passengers, has stepped up its efforts to curb unauthorised and ticketless travel across its network.
Through intensified and systematic ticket checking
During the month of April 2026, CR ticket checking teams have apprehended 4.96 lakh passengers travelling without ticket, with improper or invalid travel authority as against 4.04 lakh passengers in April last year indicating an increase of almost 23%
A sum of INR 40.85 crores have been realised as penalty from the offenders in the month of April 2026 as against INR 25.03 crores in April last year, indicating an increase of more than 63%.
Division wise details of passengers caught travelling without ticket / valid ticket and penalty amount realised from them during April 2026 are as follows:
Suburban & Mail & Express cases
In addition to Mail & Express trains, Mumbai and Pune division also run suburban trains on their network.
Mumbai division:
It runs 1820 suburban services daily including 108 AC local services.
On Mumbai division, of the total no of 2.27 lakh cases detected, 1.34 lakh are suburban cases while 93,524 are Non-suburban cases.
Of the total amount of INR 16.13 crores recovered as penalty, INR 6.64 crores constitute collection from suburban cases while INR 9.49 crores constitute collection from Non-suburban cases.
These include 12,698 cases in AC locals and recovery of INR 39.66 lakhs as penalty from unauthorised AC local passengers.
Pune division:
Pune runs 40 suburban services daily.
Of the total 51,791cases detected, 9,611 are suburban cases while 42,180 are Non-suburban cases.
Of the total amount of INR 4.54 crores recovered as penalty, INR 0.52 crores constitute collection from suburban cases while INR 4.02 crores constitute collection from Non-suburban cases.
Central Railway appeals to passengers to travel with dignity and responsibility by purchasing proper and valid tickets to avoid inconvenience and penalties. The Railway reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards ticketless travel and remains committed to ensuring that passengers enjoy a comfortable and dignified journey.
