On Monday, nearly 12 people were killed, and five others were injured in separate accidents on railway tracks in Mumbai.
According to a railway official, on the day of the accident, few people were run over by trains while crossing tracks, a few fell from overcrowded local trains, some slipped into the gap between the train and the platform, and a few also committed suicide.
According to the daily report of deaths and injuries, three people were killed on railway tracks in Thane and Kalyan each, while two people died in Mumbai's Wadala area.
One person each died on railway tracks in Kurla, Mumbai Central, Bandra, and in Dombivali. According to the railway officials, all the deceased were men. Despite safety measures, suburban railway, which is considered as Mumbai’s lifeline, is becoming a death trap. According to an RTI query, in 2017, 3,014 people lost their lives in accidents on rail tracks.
