Mumbai is a metropolitan city that witnesses the accommodation of millions of people every day. The city has two major modes of transportation: Local trains and roadways. While the trains are the lifeline of Mumbai, the roads of Mumbai are jammed with traffic due to an exponential increase in the number of vehicles since the last decade. However, to add to the woes, one of the city’s prominent flyovers will be shut for four months - December 1 onwards.

Recently, a Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) official told Mumbai Live that the Sion Circle flyover will be kept shut for four months, starting from December 1. The route connects BKC, Dharavi, Kurla, Matunga along with Chembur, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and Pune, making it one of the prominent routes of the metropolitan city.

Earlier, the Sion Circle Flyover was audited and during the audit, it was revealed that there was a need to repair the bridge bearings and joints. The transport department had stated that the repair work would be concluded as soon as possible. However, the official stated that the repair work might take time and the people will have to wait till April 1 for the flyover to become fully functional.

Accordingly, MSRDC had approached the State Transport department, who approved the corporation’s demand to keep the flyover shut for four months. Meanwhile, it is expected that the route will be diverted to the nearby routes around the flyover. The transport department will make an announcement for the same, soon.
