After a comparatively better week, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) witnessed another single-day spike in the number of COVID-19 cases on Thursday. 21 fresh cases were reported throughout the day, taking the total number of positive cases in the Mira-Bhayandar township to 286 with seven fatalities so far.

Last Friday (May 8), MBMC had recorded the highest-ever spike for a single day after 33 positive cases emerged. Meanwhile, among the 21 positive cases on Thursday, the spread was noticed more among women than men as 12 patients were women and the rest nine were men.

Notably, 11 of the cases were recorded from just one locality, Ganesh Deval Nagar in Bhayandar (West) whereas the remaining were split between separate areas between Mira Road and Bhayandar.

Eight of the fresh 21 cases were isolated instances whereas the remaining 13 were contacts of people who had tested positive earlier. The youngest patient was a 14-year-old girl from Ganesh Deval Nagar whereas the eldest was a 65-year-old from Naya Nagar in Mira Road.

The spike in the number of cases is indeed a matter of concern as it seemed that the spread had been curbed. Here's the daily breakdown of the number of cases between May 7 and May 14:

Earlier, the civic body had withdrawn the relaxations it had introduced following the conclusion of the third phase of total shutdown. Accordingly, only home delivery of groceries, essentials, fruits, vegetables, mutton, chicken and fish are allowed between 9:00 am and 11:00 pm. Although, MBMC had decided to allow the Koli community to sell fish at a particular point in Bhayandar (West) during a specified time.
