If reports are to be believed, elections of 24 municipal corporations in Maharashtra including the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections might get postponed. It is being said that prior to monsoons, the possibility of holding the BMC elections  is unlikely.

The Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) government who was in power last year reorganized the wards of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and increased the number of wards from 227 to 236.

However, when the MVA government fell due to defection of Eknath Shinde and his MLA's, the new Shinde-BJP alliance was formed. Following which, the Shinde government reversed the decision and the number of wards was restored to 227.

Because of this decision, the already stalled elections of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation are being postponed.
