BMC collects ₹5.19 lakh fine from illegally parked vehicles

On Tuesday, July 9, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has fined 107 vehicles for illegal parking. The civic body collected a fine of ₹5.19 lakh through the illegally parked vehicles as this initiative was implemented to curb illegal parking on roads, and it came into implementation July 7 onwards and is expected to reduce the congestion on roads.

BMC had stated that any vehicle parked within 500 meters of public parking lots will be considered illegally parked and defaulters will have to pay a fine of up to ₹15,000.

However, a BMC official claimed that they had collected a total fine of ₹8.69 lakh July 7 onwards. According to the official statement released by BMC, the civic body had taken action against 243 vehicles, out of which, 133 vehicles were four-wheelers, nine of them were three-wheelers, and 101 were two-wheelers.

Meanwhile, BMC officials have stated that if a vehicle is found to be illegally parked, the civic body confiscates the vehicle and if the owner does not claim the vehicle in 20 days, then BMC has the right to sell the vehicle.
