BEST witnesses a 20 per cent rise in ridership a day after revision of fare prices

Public transport aims at being accessible and affordable to the public and in a similar attempt, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) revised its bus fares and cut down the prices of its tickets. The minimum fare prices were slashed to ₹5 from ₹8 and the move that was welcomed by the people.

The revised prices were introduced July 8 onwards and a day after this, the bus corporation witnessed a 20 per cent rise in their ridership. Along with this, the usually deserted BEST bus stands were seen crowded with queues of people waiting to board the buses.

Meanwhile, it is expected that the lower BEST bus prices would affect the share autorickshaw and taxis' business.

Revised fare prices for AC buses

5 km
-

10 km
- ₹13

15 km - ₹19

One-Day pass- ₹60

Revised fare prices for non-AC buses 

Non-AC buses will charge ₹5 for the initial five-kilometer journey. After which, BEST will charge the passengers ₹10 for a 10-kilometer journey whereas ₹15 for a 15-kilometer journey.
