The canteen operated by the Bombay Bar Association (BBA) at the Bombay High Court has temporarily suspended its food and beverage services following an inspection by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The decision came a day after the Bombay High Court directed the FDA to inspect canteens in government and semi-government institutions to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
The Bombay Bar Association clarified that the closure was a voluntary measure and not the result of any adverse order, notice, or communication from the FDA. The association said the temporary suspension was initiated as a precautionary step and that services would resume after necessary compliance measures were completed.
During the inspection, FDA officials reviewed food safety practices at canteens operating within the High Court premises as part of a wider drive to enforce food safety regulations across Maharashtra.
The High Court had earlier questioned whether food safety inspections were being carried out uniformly across both private establishments and government-run canteens, prompting the statewide inspection exercise.
