At least nine people were killed and three others injured after a ground-plus-four residential building partially collapsed in Bhiwandi, near Mumbai, in the early hours of Friday.
Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local fire brigade personnel, police, and civic authorities, rushed to the site and launched an extensive search-and-rescue operation. Officials said there were fears that more residents could still be trapped beneath the debris.
The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while rescue personnel continued clearing the rubble using heavy equipment and manual efforts.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse. Preliminary reports indicate that the building had previously been identified as structurally unsafe, and notices had reportedly been issued asking residents to vacate the premises.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said the state government was closely monitoring the rescue operation. Officials stated that all necessary assistance would be provided to those affected by the tragedy.
