After the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMCannounced a new SOP for fire service fees collected from individual buildings, a group of restaurant owners, retailers, and housing societies have come together to criticize the civic body’s move.

The President of the Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR), Shivanand Shetty said, “We strongly object to levying scrutiny fees on eating houses as fire safety requirements form a part of the licence under Section 394 of the BMC Act which is issued to us after due payment is made.”

Speaking to TOI, restaurant owner Guruprasad Shetty said that the BMC already collects fire taxes in the property bill.
