The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had filed a case against the Hiranandani Group for allegedly violating rules under the Powai Area Development Plan. As per the plan approved by the state government, the developer was required to build small flats for economically weaker sections. However, it was alleged that instead, the group built large luxury apartments by combining the smaller units.

In a major relief to Niranjan Hiranandani and his company, a special court has now accepted the closure report filed by the ACB, clearing the group of wrongdoing.

According to a report by Maharashtra Times, the special judge S. E. Bangar accepted the closure report on June 2, and the court copy became available on Thursday.

The court said the report was based on a proper investigation and also aligned with previous High Court rulings. The original case was filed by ACB in 2012, after MMRDA entered into a tripartite agreement with Hiranandani while returning around 140 hectares of private land in Powai. As per the deal, the developer was expected to construct flats of 40 sq.m and 80 sq.m for low-income families — but it was alleged they were merged to make bigger flats for the wealthy.

Now, with the court accepting the closure report, the matter is considered resolved in Hiranandani's favor.
