Floyd Cardoz, Culinary Director of Mumbai's popular restaurant 'The Bombay Canteen' dies due to Coronavirus. He was recently in Mumbai for the fifth-anniversary celebration of the restaurant and the opening of brand's sweet shop.
He was tested positive for Coronavirus after he reached New Jersey, where he has passed away recently. In a recently uploaded post on Instagram, Floyd also apologised with a message that read, "Sincere apologies everyone. I am sorry for causing undue panic around my earlier post. I was feeling feverish and hence as a precautionary measure, admitted myself into hospital in New York. I was hugely anxious about my state of health and my post was highly irresponsible causing panic in several quarters. I returned to New York on March 8th via Frankfurt."
After Cardoz was tested for COVID -19, the CEO of The Bombay Canteen (Hunger Inc), in a statement said, “Mr Cardoz (59), currently admitted to a hospital in New York in the U.S., tested positive for COVID-19 on March 18, 2020. As a precautionary measure, we have informed the Health Department in Mumbai about the same. We are also reaching out personally to people who have interacted with him during his visit to India, so they can take necessary medical advice should they indicate any symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) and/ or self-quarantine. Mr Cardoz flew back to New York from Mumbai via Frankfurt on March 8, 2020.”
A chef by profession, he was born in Mumbai and graduated as a biochemist. His passion for food and cooking brought him to this level after he decided to study at a culinary school in India and in Switzerland. He moved to New York City and lived there. Cardoz was 59.
