Coronavirus Pandemic: Chef who is the culinary director of a Mumbai restaurant tests positive; had attended a party with 200 guests

New York-based Floyd Cardoz of Mumbai's popular restaurant - The Bombay Canteen, has tested positive for COVID-19. He landed on February 19, 2020, to attend the 5th anniversary celebrations of the restaurant which was attended by more than 200 guests.

The spread of coronavirus in the city is increasing as more number of positive cases are being identified every day. Though the government is trying to deal with the situation by taking important measures, officials are also improving the medical facilities, to ensure more people are tested for safety.

Recently, Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor was tested positive for Coronavirus and she took to Instagram to share the same. Now it is reported that New York-based Floyd Cardoz, a popular chef and the culinary director of The Bombay Canteen, has tested positive for the virus. A report published on Mumbai Mirror states that a party was thrown at the restaurant on March 1, 2020, and was attended by many people along with Cardoz. And now, after the news of his test was released, the attendees are concerned about their well-being. 

Cardoz was here in Mumbai on February 19, 2020, to attend the fifth-anniversary celebrations of the restaurant. As per data, the party organised on March 1 was attended by at least 200 people. Besides this, Cardoz was also a part of the sweet shop opening in Byculla, owned by the restaurant.

Talking about the same, Sameer Seth, co-founder and CEO of The Bombay Canteen, said that the team received confirmation of Cardoz's test, late on March 18, 2020, and soon upon receiving the same, health authorities were informed. Further, every guest who attended the party has been informed personally along with the ones who had personal interactions with the chef have been informed about the same, and the team is personally having a check on the situation. Cardoz left India on March 8, 2020, and was informed about the test on March 18, 2020. Besides the attendees, all the staff members have also been asked to self-isolate. 

An official statement was issued on March 19, 2020, but the team has not updated the same on the social media pages to avoid panic. Seth further stated that the team was taking necessary actions and has been updating the health authorities on a timely basis.

Cardoz is currently being treated at a hospital in New Jersey and is responding well to treatment. His wife confirmed the news.
