Don’t be surprised if spices become expensive in Mumbai as Kerala floods have damaged the crop plantation and normalisation of the supplies will take some time. Prices of coffee and common spices like cardamom, black pepper, and nutmeg, which is mostly supplied from Kerala and Karnataka, have been affected by the floods.

The prices have increased due to the Kerala floods and supplies have affected in a big way. Masala is made between January and April and if the situation doesn’t improve then next year the prices will increase further,” Ashok Khamkar, spices seller.
Kerala, known for the majority of spice production in the country, and Karnataka that produces 70 per cent of the coffee in the country are affected by severe floods.
