A landslide in Ashok Nagar, Tekdi No. 3, in Kurla West, early Wednesday morning claimed lives and damaged residential structures after soil and debris from a hillside collapsed onto two to three houses.
Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde visited the site soon after receiving information about the incident and inspected the ongoing rescue operation. She also met the affected families, offered condolences and directed the agencies involved to speed up the rescue work while maintaining close coordination.
Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Fire Brigade, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Mumbai Police and 108 ambulance services are involved in the rescue operation. The narrow approach road to the site has made access difficult, with space for only one person to pass at a time.
According to preliminary information, two bodies have been recovered so far, while two injured persons have been shifted to hospital for treatment. Rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate and evacuate anyone who may still be trapped under the debris.
Mayor Ritu Tawde announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of each person who died in the incident. She also announced Rs 50,000 in medical assistance for each injured person.
The administration is closely monitoring the rescue operation and the overall situation at the site.
