In order to contain the spread of the coronavirus, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has instructed all the district collectors as well as the police to take strict action against those who break the norms with regards to COVID-19.
According to sources, in a meeting with all the Divisional Commissioners and Collectors, Municipal Commissioners and Police Officers, CM Thackeray stated, “The state government has not shut down essential services. However, this does not mean that the rules will be broken or overcrowding will be observed. If people do not abide by the rules, the facilities should be closed by the local administration,” He also added, “The district and the police administration should check whether all the rules are being followed properly this time as it has been noticed that the marriage ceremony is largely responsible for the COVID-19 infection,”
Further speaking about the mutations in the coronavirus, CM Thackeray stated, “Mutations in the coronavirus have been found in our samples. The rate of infection is much higher than last year, with the younger generation becoming more infected. We are trying on a war footing to make oxygen available. The expert task force of the state should find out exactly what to do about the changed treatment methods by the district doctors,”
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra CM had earlier announced financial aid for the poorer sections of the society. He mentioned that 3 kg wheat and 2 kg rice will be provided at no cost, under the food security scheme. Moreover, the Shiva Bhojan Thali will be provided free of cost for the next month
On the other hand, about 12 lakh registered construction workers in Maharashtra will be given a grant of INR 1,500 from the funds of Maharashtra Building and Other Workers Welfare Board. Furthermore, approximately five lakh registered peddlers in the state will be also given financial assistance of INR 1,500 each.
