Maharashtra has been awarded first place as the Best State in India in the National Water Awards 2024, announced by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. This recognition was given to Maharashtra for its outstanding performance in the field of water conservation and management.
Alongside Maharashtra, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation secured first place in the “Best Urban Local Body” category, while Kanifnath Water/Water Use Cooperative Society, Nashik achieved second place in the “Best Water/Water Use Organisation” category.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, V.L. Kantha Rao, informed the State Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar of this achievement through an official letter. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on November 18, 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where the state will be honoured with a trophy, citation, and cash prize.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with Water Resources Ministers Girish Mahajan (Tapi, Vidarbha, and Konkan Basin Development Corporation) and Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil (Godavari and Marathwada Basin Development Corporation), congratulated the Water Resources Department for Maharashtra receiving national-level recognition for its efforts in water conservation, water management, and river rejuvenation.
