Several people were injured after a BEST bus allegedly lost control and rammed into around 14 vehicles, including 12–13 auto-rickshaws, at Andheri West on Friday, police said. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, with two women reported to be seriously injured.
The accident occurred at a traffic signal in Andheri West, where vehicles were waiting for the light to change. According to an auto-rickshaw driver who witnessed the incident, the bus driver was unable to control the vehicle and crashed into the stationary rickshaws and cars, triggering a chain collision.
The impact damaged multiple vehicles and caused panic in the area. Emergency services and police reached the spot soon after the accident, shifted the injured to hospital and began clearing the damaged vehicles to restore traffic.
Preliminary information indicates that around 12 to 13 auto-rickshaws were among the vehicles involved in the pile-up. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, including whether it resulted from mechanical failure or driver error.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and the operation of public transport vehicles in Mumbai.
