The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to resume water supply to swimming pools in Mumbai, following an improvement in the water stock of the seven reservoirs supplying the city. As of 6 am on August 12, 2026, the reservoirs had around 12,95,274 million litres (ML) of useful water stock, which is approximately 89.49% of the total capacity of 14,47,363 ML.
The decision is expected to provide relief to citizens who use municipal swimming pools. However, the civic administration has urged residents to continue using water judiciously, keeping long-term water availability in mind.
The BMC will continue to monitor rainfall, reservoir levels and weather forecasts before taking further decisions regarding the city's water supply.
