A moving car caught fire inside the northbound tunnel of the Mumbai Coastal Road on Wednesday afternoon, triggering panic among motorists and bringing traffic to a standstill for over an hour. The incident occurred around 12:25 pm in the tunnel connecting Haji Ali and Worli.

According to officials, the occupants managed to escape the vehicle safely before the flames spread. The Mumbai Fire Brigade and other emergency responders rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. No injuries were reported.

As a precaution, authorities temporarily closed the affected tunnel and diverted traffic, resulting in heavy congestion along the Breach Candy and adjoining stretches. Vehicular movement resumed after the burnt vehicle was removed and the tunnel was declared safe for use.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an investigation is underway. Authorities are examining whether a mechanical or electrical fault may have triggered the incident.
