The Bombay High Court has dismissed a petition seeking the exclusion of the Dharavi Koliwada area from the ongoing Dharavi Redevelopment Project, allowing the redevelopment plan to proceed without interruption.

The petition, filed by the Dharavi Koli Jamat Trust, had demanded that the traditional fishing community settlement of Koliwada be carved out from the redevelopment boundaries. However, the court observed that the redevelopment proposal had already been approved in 2016 and had attained finality, making the challenge not maintainable at this stage.

The bench also noted that while the Koli fishing community has a long-standing presence in the area, Dharavi has undergone extensive urban development over the years, and the redevelopment process is already underway.

The court permitted the petitioners to approach the concerned authorities regarding boundary demarcation issues but declined to halt or modify the project.

The ruling marks a key step forward for the Dharavi redevelopment initiative, which aims to transform the area into a modern residential and commercial hub.
