Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar announced that the state government will formulate a new incentive policy to boost the film industry and encourage high-quality film production in Maharashtra.

The announcement was made during a meeting chaired by Shelar at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai with Hindi film producers and representatives of major production houses. Discussions focused on challenges faced during film production in Mumbai and Maharashtra, including shooting permissions, infrastructure, and policy-related issues affecting the industry.

Shelar said a three-member expert committee will be formed to study film industry incentive models implemented in other Indian states and abroad. The committee has been asked to submit its report within three months after reviewing subsidies, concessions, and promotional schemes offered globally to filmmakers.

Representatives from major production houses including T-Series, Red Chillies Entertainment, Dharma Productions, Junglee Pictures, and the Producers Guild of India attended the meeting.

The minister also said the government is working on developing new shooting destinations in Kolhapur, Ramtek near Nagpur, and Nashik. He added that efforts are underway to modernise ND Studio and introduce a hybrid public-private participation model for Film City projects after previous tenders received poor response.

To simplify filmmaking procedures, the state has started developing a single-window clearance system that will make permissions available online. Short-term film and media skill-development courses have also been introduced at Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari in collaboration with Film and Television Institute of India.
