Mumbai: Woman jumps off Atal Setu, search operation continues

In a shocking incident, a 43-year-old woman jumped from Atal Setu on Monday. This is the first incident of suicide attempt on Atal Setu. The taxi driver informed the Navi Mumbai police about this, but the identity of the woman could only be ascertained after the Bhoiwada police contacted the Nhava Sheva police late on Monday evening.

According to Subhash Borate, senior police inspector of Bhoiwada police station, the woman was suffering from depression for the last eight years.

He said her father lodged a missing complaint in the afternoon as she did not come home. The family then found a note written by her, in which it was written that she was going to Atal Setu to commit suicide, as per Hindustan Times report. She also made it clear that they should not harass the taxi driver.

After receiving this note, the police started checking the CCTV footage of the area and found that the woman boarded a taxi from Dadar at 1:45 pm. By the time the Bhoiwada police contacted the Nhava Sheva police, they were searching for the woman. Since then the Coast Guard Police, Nhava Sheva Police, Bhoiwada Police and Mumbai Motor Traffic Police have been searching for her, without any results. The police said that the search operation will continue on Wednesday in the case of suicide attempt.
