An alert has been issued for Mumbai and neighbouring areas as heavy rains have been forecasted over the region for the upcoming 36 hours. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the citizens in Mumbai and Pune will have to face heavy to very heavy rains for the next 36 hours.
Meanwhile, Mithi river has been overflowing over the danger mark. Accordingly, the authorities have shifted more than 400 people to a safer place as a precautionary measure. Earlier on Sunday, around 50 patients and 120 employees were rescued from a private hospital in Pune.

Due to heavy rains in Maharashtra, the state government had announced a holiday for all schools and colleges across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. According to the forecast, the coastline regions situated in Maharashtra and Goa will receive heavy rains on Monday. Alongside, an alert for high tide has been issued and the fishermen are advised to stay away from the sea coast.
Around six trains were cancelled by Railways after the tracks were waterlogged whereas several trains were re-routed. On the other hand, the weather forecast has indicated heavy rainfall with gusty winds in Mumbai.

The government has dispatched eight National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to carry out rescue work in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
