Western Railway authorities have asked Integral Coach Factory (ICF) to not send the third AC local train unless the glitches from the previous two AC local trains are addressed at the manufacturing end. This means that more than 17,000 commuters using Western Railway's air-conditioned local train service every will have to extend their wait for another train.

On the other hand, adding to the commuters' woes, the only AC local train which runs between Churchgate and Virar, has a month to go before it is taken off the tracks for repair work. Alongside, the second AC local is undergoing trials before it can be introduced for use.

From the pace of the work on the new local and the repairs required on the old one, it is possible that the air-conditioned local ride might be suspended in September. Currently, Western Railway runs one 12-car AC local and its first round of major maintenance was scheduled to take place in June. This consists of the rake's major components being inspected and, if necessary, replaced.

The Western Railway authorities found numerous issues in the AC local between the time it first arrived in April 2016 and began trial runs in November 2016. Accordingly, they had relayed their concerns to ICF, the manufacturer along with railway research wing Research, Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), which installed electric components, and the Railway Board about it.

Therefore, they have requested the authorities to delay the introduction of the third local train until other problems from the former rakes are resolved.
