In a bid to reinforce its efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has initiated special mass screening in containment zones in Koparkhairane ward. NMMC has handed the task to 10 medical teams which will try to reach the maximum number of citizens in Koparkhairane. Once the screening drive is completed in Koparkhairne, the civic body intends to conduct a similar drive in Turbhe by next week.

Koparkhairne is one of the worst-affected areas in Navi Mumbai with over 350 positive cases being reported and 29 containment zones. The ward has a maximum number of positive cases in Navi Mumbai.

On the other hand, Turbhe only has five containment zones but over 300 positive cases have been reported. As of May 28 2:00 pm, 1,853 cases have been reported under the jurisdiction of NMMC. As the density of population is high in Turbhe, the civic officials are planning the special drive in the area and break the chain of spread.

The plan is to conduct screening in Kopar Khairane between May 28 and June 2. On May 28, people in containment zones in Sector 15, 16 will be screened, whereas on May 29, 30, people from Sector 23 will be screened and on June 1 and 2, the teams will carry out screening in Sector 12. As per officials, more than 1,500 persons have been screened in Koparkhairne so far.

Later, in Turbhe, the teams will screen Sector 21 and 22 on June 3 and 4, Turbhe Stores on June 5 and 6 and Turbhe Naka on June, 8 and 9.

The 10 medical teams of expert doctors have been formed from NMMC hospitals, Dr D Y Patil hospital and Terna Hospital.
