Traffic restrictions have been imposed on the Thane–Belapur Road in the Rabale area from May 27, as MMRDA has undertaken bridge construction work.
Girder installation work will be carried out near the Bharat Bijlee and Siemens company premises, and traffic diversions will remain in effect daily from 11 pm on May 27 until 6 am on June 4. During this period, certain stretches of the Thane–Belapur Road will be temporarily closed, and motorists have been urged to use alternate routes, according to the traffic police.
The girder installation work for the bridge in Rabale will continue for 14 consecutive nights. Due to the use of heavy machinery during this period, traffic changes have been implemented for safety reasons, the administration stated. Since a large number of heavy vehicles operate on the Thane–Belapur Road at night, special arrangements have been made to avoid congestion.
For heavy vehicles (six-wheelers and above) traveling from Thane towards Belapur, diversion has been arranged via the Mukund Company area into internal MIDC roads. For four-wheelers, an alternate route has been designated via Bharat Bijlee Chowk, Fire Brigade Chowk, and then through Khedekar Chowk.
For vehicles traveling from Belapur towards Thane, separate arrangements have been made. Vehicles will be diverted at Rabale Naka signal, turning right into MIDC internal roads and proceeding via Mukund Company. Vehicles coming via the Patni route towards Thane can use Rabale Naka, Diva Gaon Circle, and T-point as an alternative route.
Due to this work, traffic pressure is expected to increase at night in Rabale, Mahape, and Ghansoli areas. In particular, the number of heavy vehicles on internal MIDC roads is likely to rise, which may lead to longer travel times. Commuters traveling to airports, railway stations, or long-distance destinations during night hours have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly. Traffic police have also recommended using alternate routes wherever possible to avoid congestion.
