The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has opposed the proposal to ban Ganesh idols in houses made of Plaster of Paris (PoP). The party has demanded that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) should wait for the report of the state-appointed technical committee. In addition, it has urged to allow aarti after 10 pm without loudspeakers.

BJP's Mumbai unit president Ashish Shelar stated, "We do not agree with the decision of BMC, many families depend on the business of making POP idols for Ganeshotsav, banning POP idols would be unscientific, unconstitutional and unfair."

Slamming Uddhav Thackeray on this decision, Ashish Shelar said: "Was he sleeping for last 25 years and now pretending that sea is polluted only because of POP idols."

Shelar was present at the meeting of Ganesh mandals convened by Culture Minister Sudhir Mungatiwar.
