Good News, Mumbaikars! Now, Auto & taxi drivers cannot refuse any fares

In a relieving news to Mumbaikars, the Mumbai traffic police will now take action against those autorickshaw and taxi drivers who refuses fares, under Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) section 178 (3), 1998.

This development came after the city cops received several complaints that the nearest rent is being refused many times.

It further stated that in case of receipt of complaints of refusal of fare in this manner, the concerned rickshaw and taxi driver shall be immediately informed or why action should be taken under Section 178 (3).

Furthermore, a meeting will be organised to sensitise the drivers to behave better with citizens and aid in a hassle free commute. The police officials will be sensitised as well.

In an official statement released by the traffic department, it noted: "In our monthly review meeting, the in-charge Police Inspector has been instructed to take action against the rickshaw and taxi drivers who refuse fares. Also, action will be taken against the rickshaw and taxi drivers who refuse the fare, the notice boards have been put up outside the railway and bus stations. Immediate action is expected to be taken against the concerned rickshaw / taxi driver on receipt of fare refusal complaints."

However, all in-charge police inspectors should contact the associations of rickshaw and taxi drivers in their transport department and organise a meeting, so that rickshaw and taxi drivers should be enlightened about treating passengers with courtesy and not refusing fares.
