25-year-old Indian seafarer from KandivaliDixit Solanki, was killed when an oil tanker he was working on came under attack near the coast of Oman, amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. Solanki was serving on the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker MKD Vyom, which was struck by an explosive-laden drone boat approximately 52 nautical miles off Muscat, triggering a fire in the engine room.

Several other crew members, including Indians and Bangladeshi nationals, were rescued by a passing vessel. Solanki, originally from Diu and residing in Kandivali, had recently returned to Mumbai following the death of his mother before resuming his duties at sea. His body is expected to be repatriated to India.

The incident underscores the risks faced by merchant mariners operating in strategic shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz, as geopolitical tensions in the region continue to put civilian vessels at risk.
