Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday, July 29, said that the state disaster management department is in favour of allowing fully vaccinated people to travel in local trains in Mumbai. Tope, however, noted that a final decision would be taken by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

These statements were made by Tope just before a meeting was called by the CM with the state COVID-19 task force.

While addressing media, the minister said that to keep the wheels of the economy moving in Mumbai, the state disaster management has expressed its opinion in favour of allowing people who have taken both doses of vaccine to board local trains.

"Though, it is a bit difficult to verify whether people travelling in local trains have actually received both the doses or not," Tope was quoted as saying by PTI.

Meanwhile, some experts have also suggested increasing the timings of shops and other services beyond 4 pm.

Moreover, Tope also appealed to people, especially from rural areas, to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The vaccination reduces the severity of the disease and also sharply reduces mortality due to coronavirus, the health minister said.

Besides, Mumbai Guardian minister Aslam Shaikh on Wednesday, July 28, also hinted that fully vaccinated passengers could be permitted to travel unrestricted within two to three days.
