Currently, Mumbai has only one national flag in the entire city. But as per a recent announcement, Mumbai will get two more Tricolours.
One 150-foot flag will be installed at Gateway of India and another 126-foot Tricolour will be installed at Dr. Ambedkar Statue Chowk near Cooperage garden.
Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Raj Purohit had put forward the two proposals respectively and on Wednesday, the heritage committee finally gave its nod. Dr. Ambedkar Statue Chowk will now have a Tricolour and an Akhand Bhim Jyot (flame). The Tricolours will cost around ₹20 lakh each.

Recently, the city also earned the distinction of having the tallest national flag in the country, with Haj House near Crawford Market unfurling the Tricolour 350-feet above the ground.
Earlier, the government had already directed the Railways to install at least 100-foot tall Tricolours on the premises of 75 erstwhile ‘A1’ class railway stations in the country, including seven in Mumbai.
