Soon, Mumbaikars will get to see a national flag on the premises of railway stations on both Central and Western Line. Following the suit of playing the National Anthem before a movie at multiplexes, the government has directed 75 of the busiest railway stations to install the Indian National Flag.
Last month, the Railway Board had issued a circular stating that 75 stations, whose annual earnings exceed ₹50 crore — which are known as A-1 category railway stations — must ensure that the tricolour height remains precisely 100 ft. The board also set the deadline to unfurl the national flag at railway stations on December 31, 2018.

The main objective of installing the National flag is to showcase the symbol of our country at public places be it placing freedom fighters’ portraits or the National flag, said one of the senior railway officials.
The Railway Board directive has mentioned that tricolours at the stations should be installed at spots closer to the entry/exit points. Meanwhile, one of the railway officials said that they are also planning to paint the tricolour on the coaches of local trains.
