While the employees had demanded a ₹15,000 bonus, the decision to offer a bonus of ₹5,500 was taken during a BEST committee meeting. The announcement certainly enlightened the festival for the employees as they received the bonus after relentless efforts.

BEST is an institution with more than 40,000 employees and providing them with a bonus would mean a cost of approximately ₹22 crore. However, since the transport wing has been facing financial troubles for a long time, this year, the organisation was skeptical about offering the employees with a Diwali bonus.

After which, the BEST employees reached out to BEST administration and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials, who then decided to provide the employees with ₹5,500 Diwali bonus.

Earlier, the transport company had received some money for providing the employees with a bonus during the FY 2016-17. However, since BEST was suffering from a financial crisis, the company provided a deductible bonus of ₹5,500 to its employees and cut it from their salaries through 11 installments. But this year, the employees were going to receive a non-deductible bonus.
