The Brihanmumbai Energy Supply and Transport (BEST) employees are all set to have a happy Diwali as the transport organisation has declared a bonus for them on the occasion of the festival. Thus, unlike last year, the employees won’t receive a deductible bonus and the bonus will add up to the happiness of the employees during Diwali.
Prior to the bonus being declared, the BEST employees had demanded the bus company to provide a bonus similar to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), who gave their employees a ₹15,000 Diwali bonus. Accordingly, a meeting was arranged for the same on Thursday but the meeting consisted of no discussion of the bonus. So, the decision for the bonus was made in a meeting on Friday, where the management decided to provide them with ₹5,500 for Diwali.
Earlier, the transport company had received some money for providing the employees with a bonus during the FY 2016-17. However, since BEST was suffering from a financial crisis, the company provided a deductible bonus of ₹5,500 to its employees and cut it from their salaries through 11 installments.
This is a big victory for the BEST employees. We were going to meet the officials at Shiv Sena Bhavan on Sunday as we had not received the bonus. However, the decision from Friday’s meeting has provided us with an assurance and therefore, the employees are happy to have received the bonus during Diwali,” Suhas Samant, BEST Committee Member
